College First

Submitted by Josefa in November 2012

I married young, started a family young, and have been working full time since I married at age 19.  I am now going to nursing school, after my children are full grown and my husband has left.

Even though I believe it is never too late to fulfill your career dreams, my advice to fellow students, specifically the female population, would be to get your college degree before you marry and start a family.  My advice would be to get your college degree before you have the responsibility of paying for rent or a mortgage.  My advice to fellow students would be to take your education seriously while you are young, even if you plan not to work to start a family.  Your degree will always be your back up plan.  Your degree will help you stand on your own two feet, because you never know what curve balls life throws at you.
